Religious Life at Colgate The Office of the University Chaplain provides opportunities for students to pursue an active religious life at Colgate. University congregations that worship weekly include the University Church (ecumenical Christian, mostly Protestant), the Newman Community (Roman Catholic), and the Jewish Community, all of which have ordained clergy on the staff of the Office of the Chaplain. The Muslim Student community meets weekly, and is supported by the University Chaplain. Colgate also has a chapter of Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. All of these communities have dynamic programs and energetic student leadership. There are opportunities for prayer, worship, scriptural study, lectures, mission, service, and lively social events. Opportunities for interfaith dialogue are also offered. Students whose needs are not met by these offerings may be assisted by the University Chaplain. Local Protestant and Catholic congregations also welcome students. Chapel House, on the hillside above the campus, is a fully-endowed center for the study of the great religions of the world. Colgate also offers a full range of courses in the academic study of religion. |
