The
Educational Studies Department at Colgate University offers
a full time tenure stream position in
Comparative and International Education. Relative to
educational foundations specialties, we welcome a broad range of
expertise in historical, political, feminist, philosophical,
psychological, and/or developmental foundations of education
and/or urban education. All Colgate faculty contribute to
Colgate’s all-university programs. In addition, there are
opportunities to teach in an interdisciplinary program such as
Environmental Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Africana and
Latin American Studies, and others.
In
addition to offering a major and minor concentration program in
Educational Studies, we offer elementary and secondary education
programs and a Master of Arts in Teaching degree. Our faculty
are committed to providing a breadth of course offerings to
students interested in exploring problems, processes, and
consequences of education, whether or not they are planning a
career in teaching. The Educational Studies Department at
Colgate University is both social justice and sustainability
focused. We seek applications from individuals who have an
interest in the role of Educational Studies at a liberal arts
institution and can contribute to the intellectual development
of both groups of students, those preparing to teach and those
pursuing educational studies as liberal arts education.

The
History Department at Colgate University seeks a
tenure-track Latin American
historian at the Assistant Professor level to begin teaching in
August 2010 who would complement existing strengths in Caribbean
and Atlantic History within the department. The field of
specialization is open. The successful candidate will teach
five courses, including introductory and upper division courses

student-athletes for Colgate and assisting the head coach in all

the head coach in all areas as they relate to the daily
operation of the program; and other duties as assigned by the

twelve-month position. Bachelor’s degree and past playing
and/or coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level,

Compensation includes a $27,877 stipend, individual health

ten-month position to begin on August 1, 2009. Past competitive
and/or coaching experience is required, preferably at the
collegiate level. The successful candidate will be expected to
oversee all aspects involved in running a successful diving
program, including but not limited to: (1) on-deck coaching, (2)
assisting the men's and women's head swimming & diving coach in
all phases of the Division I program, within university,
conference and NCAA rules and regulations, (3) working in
conjunction with the head swimming coach to recruit
student-athletes who meet the academic and athletics goals of
the program, and (4) performing other duties as assigned by the
head swimming and diving coach. Requirements include: Red Cross
certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR and First Aid, and a
valid driver’s license. A bachelor’s degree and past diving
and/or coaching experience are required, preferably at the
collegiate level.

The Colgate
University Department of Physics and
Astronomy invites applications for a one-year visiting
assistant professor position in physics to begin in fall 2009.
A Ph.D. in physics or a related discipline is required,
and
previous teaching experience is an advantage.
We
seek a person with a strong commitment to undergraduate
education. Academic responsibilities will primarily be teaching
our introductory level physics courses for non-majors, with the
option of an upper level course or a course in Colgate’s Liberal
Arts Core Curriculum. Although the candidate will have no
research requirements during this appointment, collaboration
with current faculty is possible. Colgate is a highly selective
liberal arts university of 2800 students situated in a
picturesque village in central New York. The department has
nine faculty members and maintains well-equipped research
laboratories in quantum and optical physics, condensed matter
physics, and observational astronomy, located in the new Ho
Science Center that is configured to facilitate
interdisciplinary teaching and research. Candidates should
send a curriculum vitae plus a letter describing teaching
experience and objectives, and a short description of research
experience. The CV should include a publication list and the
names of three individuals who have been asked by the candidate
to send letters of recommendation. At least two letters should
address the candidate’s teaching qualifications, and one should
