Internal Funding Sources
for Research and Faculty Development
Research grants and leaves at Colgate are supported by the Dean of the Faculty and by the Research Council,
a committee of faculty and administrators. Grants are awarded in four categories: Major Grants, Picker Research Fellowships,
Discretionary Grants, and Student Wage Grants. The proposal deadline for major grants, Picker research fellowships, and
senior and associate faculty leaves is in January. The Research Council considers applications for discretionary grants
and student wage grants throughout the year.
Faculty Development grants, administered by Colgate's Council for Faculty Development, support projects designed to
strengthen pedagogical skills or to extend the range of the faculty's teaching and advising capabilities. The council awards
Major Grants and Discretionary Grants. Proposal deadlines are in October and March.
