Volunteer Disclaimer
Students desiring to participate in a Volunteer Colgate group do so of their own free will and at their own risk. In the event of an injury, students must personally accept responsibility for the full expense of medical attention as well as other expenses arising out of such injury. Some volunteer projects may have inherent risks associated with them, and it is the student volunteer's responsibility to know what those risks are and to not follow through on any activity they may deem too high a level of risk for their own capabilities. Student volunteers agree to release and hold Colgate University, its Board of Trustees, officers, and employees harmless from and against all losses from claims or liabilities for personal damages or other damages incurred as a result of their participation in the Volunteer Colgate group, whether or not resulting from the University's negligence. Students participating in a Volunteer Colgate group are not considered an employee of Colgate university, and shall not be eligible for, or covered under, any benefit program maintained by the University, including but not limited to worker's compensation, health insurance, disability, and business travel accident coverage. While students must be accountable for their actions, under certain conditions they may be afforded coverage under the University's liability insurance. These conditions include, but are not limited to, the student's carrying out their volunteer duties in a mature, responsible manner.
