Center for Independent Living
The Civil Rights movement of the 1960's ignited a growing national independent living campaign to promote equal access and integration for persons with disabilities. Today, the Resource Center for Independent Living continues to promote the individual services and systemic changes and programs that support the rights and integration of people with disabilities. The Resource Center for Independent Living is the largest of New York State's 35 Independent Living Centers, running a variety of independent living and advocacy services which reach more than 16,000 people annually. The Utica Field School intern can assist with program development, work with the creation of a for-profit venture that would support the non-profit work of RCIL or tailor make an opportunity that meshes with the intern’s skills and interests.
