Dean of the College
Professor Weinberg brings 12 years experience developing service-learning programs and courses.  He has also served as research director of the Partnership for Community Development, which works with the local village and towns on sustainable community development (www.partnersatwork.org).  Most recently, he and his students have helped to form a small business development program that targets jobs for low-income workers.  He also recently launched a nation wide initiative called Democracy Matters that is helping faculty and students develop courses around the need to deepen democracy in the United States (www.democracymatters.org).  From 1998-2000, he served as a task force member of President Clinton's Council on Sustainable Development.  He is the author of 2 books and over 25 articles on community development.  Professor Weinberg co-directs The COVE.

Director Of Community Outreach.
Marnie Terhune has been interested in volunteerism and civic engagement throughout her professional career, beginning with her first job out of college, when she coordinated community service at Middlebury College.  Since arriving at Colgate eleven years ago, she has introduced service and volunteer elements into each of the jobs she has held.  Until recently, Marnie directed the Office of Student Activities, where she oversaw and helped restructure Volunteer Colgate, worked with CAndOO, the service-based residence program and coordinated Outreach, a community service experience for incoming first-years. An active volunteer within the Hamilton community, Marnie has served on the Chenango Nursery School Board of Directors and worked with the Partnership for Community Development on marketing and buy-local campaigns.

Administrative Coordinator

Colleen assists the student volunteer teams with any administrative and logistical issues that arise, and serves as the main contact for the COVE.  She has been at Colgate for 13 years.  She and her family have been involved in volunteerism and community service for many years.

Community Team Coordinator

Betsy came to Colgate from Hartwick College where she was the Community Service Coordinator and was involved in Residential  Life.  She has a BA in Art and often combines her interest in social justice with photography.

 

Internships

10 month position working on issues of Community Service

PLEASE NOTE: The internship has been filled for 2003-2004  
The COVE currently has three part time staff members who work with groups that are divided into long-term, school-based, and new initiative.  Functions: Responsibilities include advising existing service-oriented groups, assisting with logistical and general office support, helping to promote COVE programs and events, and working to increase Colgate students' involvement in service to the community.
Qualifications: Excellent organizational skills, a commitment to service and strong communication skills are imperative.  Personal involvement in community service and leadership of student organizations are definite plusses.

Residential Education Coordinator - ext. 6878 or mbrumbaugh@mail.colgate.edu  Michael's position allows him to work in both the COVE and the Office of Residential Life.  He advises the first-year Community Action and Outreach Organization (CAndOO) community.  Additionally, he works on recruitment and student involvement, helping students find volunteer opportunities that fit their interests and long-term service goals.  Michael also focuses on issues of political awareness and activism, challenging students to see the political component of service.
