First Year Housing

Community Action Outreach Opportunity
(CAn-dOO)

Many incoming first-year students have been active volunteers in their hometowns. Community service plays a large roll at Colgate. There are many opportunities for students to continue their involvement and around Hamilton. CAn-dOO is a program for incoming students who are interested in building service and volunteerism into their Colgate career.

Students participating in the CAn-dOO program live in East Hall, a co-educational, substance free residential hall that houses the COVE (a community service center).  CAn-dOO residents work together to plan and run group service projects. They are also given a chance to take on early leadership roles with the 30 student groups who work through the COVE. To facilitate this, the Cove staff, who advise this group, run special events and training sessions of CAn-dOO.

East HallInterested students are encouraged to participate in Outreach, a three-day community service program just before the start of the fall semester, and they also have the option of enrolling in a spring course on community service.

How can I be a part of it?

Reach Out . . .  Learn . . . Plan for the Future . . . Be a Part of the Process
