Dawn LaFrance, Psy.D.

This is my second year at Colgate University, and I have found it to be an exciting place to work. College mental health is the area of psychology that interests me the most. I enjoy helping young adults through their many life experiences. After completing my undergraduate degree at Lafayette College, I earned a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Indianapolis. During my training, I worked in community mental health and university counseling centers. I spent my internship year at Utah State University's Counseling Center. My therapeutic orientation is a combination of cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and systems perspectives. Existential and humanistic theories have also influenced my work. Although I am a generalist, I am especially interested in college adjustment, developmental issues, sexual abuse trauma, ADHD, depression, and anxiety. I have found both individual and group treatments to be effective ways of helping students.

My outreach efforts at Colgate have focused on sexual assault awareness and prevention. I advise the Sexual Consultation and Resource Center (SCRC) as well as co-chair the Sexual Issues Group (SIG).

My husband, who is a physical therapist, and I grew up in a small town south of Syracuse, NY. In my free time, I love to run, cross-country and downhill ski, read, fish with my husband, and spend time with my family and friends.
