There are a
number of symptoms present when somebody is suffering from depression.
Although the actual diagnosis of clinical depression should be made by a
mental health professional, a combination of the following symptoms is
likely to be present:
- Depressed
or irritable mood
- Loss
of interest or pleasure in most activities
- Changes
in sleeping patterns, either sleeping too much or not enough
- Changes
in appetite, usually accompanied with weight gain or weight loss
- Fatigue
- Difficulty
concentrating
- Feelings
of worthlessness, hopelessness, or guilt
- Frequent
thoughts of death or suicide
Difficulty
functioning in personal, social, or academic capacities
