Welcome to the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Office at Colgate University. The EHS Office was originally formed as the Chemical Management Office in January of 1993. The office was created to help the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Division safely handle and dispose of chemicals to include regulated medical waste and radioactive materials. The responsibilities of the office have grown over the past few years to include those listed below.

The name of the Chemical Management Office was changed to the Environmental Health and Safety Office on July 1, 1997. The new name more accurately reflects the broad range of programs that the EHS Officer is involved in. What does the Environmental Health and Safety Office do, you ask? Below is a list of administered programs. If you have an environmental, health or safety concern, or if you want or need information or training in a particular area, please don't hesitate to contact Jennifer A. Martin or a member of one of our safety committees.

Mission:

The goal of the Environmental Health and Safety Office is to provide a safe and healthy work environment for Natural Sciences Division employees, students, and visitors. This is accomplished through policies, programs, training, and information.
