F. Employee Information And Training
F1. Phase I (Orientation).
Each new employee who will be working with or may be exposed to hazardous chemicals will receive a general awareness orientation at the beginning of their employment at Colgate. This orientation will be conducted by the Hazard Communication Coordinator and will be scheduled by the Human Resources Department. The orientation will consist of an overview of the hazard Communication Standard, the physical and health hazards of chemicals, symptoms of exposure, MSDSs, labelling, proper chemical handling practices, general emergency procedures, and the details of our Hazard Communication Program.
F2. Phase II (Departmental).
Department Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that all personnel in their department receive training on the specific hazards for the chemicals that they use and the procedures that they can take to protect themselves from exposure. Training does not have to be formal and should be accomplished by whatever means are most appropriate for individual departments. Employees will be informed of the location of the MSDSs for the materials that they use, any labeling systems in effect, and departmentally developed procedures relating to their specific functions.
Special training sessions will be conducted to cover non-routine tasks.
F3. Procedures for Documenting Training.
The Employee Information and Training Verification Form located in Appendix D will be used as a recording and tracking tool. The form will be initiated by the HCC during orientation. The employee will fill out and sign Part I after completion of the orientation session. The form will then be forwarded to the employee's supervisor. Part II will be filled out and signed by the employee upon completion of the departmental training/information session. It is the department supervisor's responsibility to ensure that the form is filled out and returned to the HCC.
