     A Day in the Life

A Day in the Life off    A Day in the Life offers Colgate students an opportunity to explore career options. Students are matched with alumni and parent volunteers to shadow one “typical” day at work during January break. This program is administered by the Center for Career Services, with generous support from alumni and parents.

How do Colgate students benefit from the program?

Students receive firsthand perspective of a selected career area, make valuable networking contacts, and have a chance to see classroom learning applied to real-world situations. Students are encouraged to act as responsible professionals; to be enthusiastic and willing to learn.

How do alumni and parent sponsors benefit from the program?

Former volunteers have delighted in the opportunity to help students learn about their career path and employer.  Sponsors may also enjoy learning about current life at Colgate.

What is the role of the A Day in the Life sponsor?

Exchange ideas with students, while providing an introduction to an industry or organization. Sponsors may offer suggestions regarding further exploration of career fields through internships and networking, or advice on the job search process. Students are not paid for their shadow experience, and are not required to complete a project or work assignment.

Which students participate?

Students from all classes and majors are invited to apply. Preference is given first to sophomores; juniors and first-years; then seniors. Students who are exploring career choices and those directed in their career path. Students’ knowledge will differ depending on their experiences.
