| It was extremely difficult to find any information on sexuality issues
pertaining to Bosnian refugees. Homosexuality is a
taboo subject in Bosnian culture. Through the
interviews we did conduct, it was found that Bosnians frown upon same
sex relationships. It is not accepted by the Bosnian community in
their homeland or within the United States. Lidija Hamzic stated,
"Back home and within the Bosnian population here in Utica, it is
not talked about. It is understood that it is wrong and has always
been wrong and that's that." Therefore, it would be extremely
difficult for Bosnian refugees to confide in their family or friends
about their sexuality if they are gay, lesbian, or bisexual. |
