Coming to visit is easier than you might think. Colgate
University is located in the village of Hamilton, in the historic district at the northern
end of the Chenango Valley, in upstate New York. Though most visitors will drive to
campus, Our location makes it easy if you would like to take a bus
or train, or fly to nearby Syracuse.
Driving Directions
Hamilton, New York is located on Route 12B (not
Route 12 or Route 20); this is the most important
fact to remember in locating Colgate. The Office of Admission is in James B.
Colgate Hall. Enter campus via Oak Drive or College Street.
From New York City: Take the Tappan Zee Bridge, Route 87, NYS
Thruway North to Exit 16 (Harriman); Route 17 West to Exit 84 for Deposit.
At Deposit, take Route 8 North to New Berlin, then Route 80 West to Sherburne
and Route 12 North. In Sherburne, bear left on Route 12B North to Hamilton.
From
north of Westchester: NYS Thruway, Exit 25A to I-88 West; take the
first exit for Route 20 West. Follow Route 20 to Madison; left on Route
12B South into Hamilton.
From north/central New Jersey: Follow I-80 West into
Pennsylvania. Exit for I-380 Northwest
toward Scranton, to I-81 North to Binghamton. Take Exit 6 for Route 12 North to Sherburne; bear left on Route 12B
North to Hamilton.
From Syracuse and points west: Take I-81 South. Exit onto
I-690 East. Exit onto I-481 South. Exit 3E off I-481 for Route 92
East. Follow Route 92 to Cazenovia and take Route 20 East. Follow Route 20
East to Route 46 South. Bear right on Route 46 South. Take Route 46
South to Route 12B South. Follow Route 12B South to the Village of
Hamilton. Stay on Route 12B South through town. Colgate University
will be on your left. Turn left at the traffic light onto Oak
Drive.
From Boston and the east: Take the Mass Pike to NYS Thruway
West to Exit 25A for I-88 (Duanesburg), then I-88 West to Exit 24 for Route 20
West; beyond Madison turn left onto Route 12B South to Hamilton. In bad
weather, or for more highway driving, stay on NYS Thruway West to Exit 31
(Utica); follow sign for Route 12 South through Utica; then take Route 12B South
to Hamilton.
From Philadelphia: Take Northeast Extension of PA Turnpike to I-81 at
Scranton; north on I-81 to Binghamton. Take Exit 6 for Route 12 North to
Sherburne; bear left on 12B North to Hamilton.
Flying to Colgate
Most air travelers will fly into Syracuse Hancock International Airport.
Nine major airlines fly in and out of Hancock regularly, including: American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Northwest
Airlines, Trans World Airlines (TWA), USAirways and United
Airlines. Once landing you have two options to make the one hour drive to
campus: you may rent a car at the airport, or reserve a limousine to bring you to
campus. Car rentals at the airport are available through Hertz, Avis,
National, and Alamo. If you won't need a car during your
visit, you may want to arrange a ride to campus through Hamilton Collegiate Taxi [315- 824-8294]
located in Hamilton.
If you have a small aircraft of your own, a small airport located just north of
Hamilton operated by Keib Air Service
can be used as well.
Traveling by Bus or Train
Shortline Bus Company brings passengers to
campus six times each day on the route between Binghamton to Utica. Most passengers
connect to Shortline buses through Greyhound which
services the major cities in central New York. Amtrak
is also available into Syracuse or Utica. Travelers can use Shortline buses from
the Utica Train/Bus Station, or call Hamilton Collegiate Taxi [315- 824-8294] to arrange
the last leg of the trip.
